Monze District has recorded significant progress in road infrastructure development across its three constituencies—Monze Central, Moomba, and Bweengwa—under the Presidential Directive funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation of K3,278,013.69.
Speaking in an interview, Monze Town Council Public Relations Officer Kanchele Kanchele said a combined total of 75 Kilometers of road works have been completed out of a total of 105.4 Kilometers allocated under the Presidential Directive, while works on the remaining 30.4 Kilometers are underway across the District.
Kanchele explained that in Monze Central Constituency a total road chainage of 38 km was earmarked to be worked on and that 29 km had been completed.
He said the works on the Malama Road which had been allocated 15 km has been completed and that the Chisekesi–St. Mary’s Road 5 km has been cleared and grubbed, adding that the Off St. Mary’s to Gali Road allocated 9 km has been completed with ongoing spot improvements.
Kanchele said In Moomba Constituency a total road chainage of 33.2 km was the target and 24 km completed with works still ongoing, and an additional 6.2 km cleared and grubbed.
He explained that notable works included full completion of Hamudonga–Kasaka Road 15 km, and partial works on George Artkins to Kasaka Road and the route to Kanyondwe School.
As for Bweengwa Constituency, Kanchele said a total chainage of 34.2 km was targeted to be worked on but only 22 km has been completed so far and work are ongoing.
The Main highlights include full completion of Keemba–Kaumuzya Road (15 km), with ongoing works on Niko–Bbolomani Road and pending commencement on Niko–Malundu Road.
Kanchele said the Local Authority remains committed to completing all the remaining roads works before the end of the year which is inclusive of the feeder roads as some strecthes have commenced dumping activities.
